Minor: Computational Science

(24 credits; 175-400)

Computational Science is for students interested in applying knowledge of computational methods and models to a particular scientific discipline.

The CPSC minor is a cooperative program among the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geography, Geology, Mathematics, and Physics & Astronomy. Students work with faculty from several departments during the program and participate in multidisciplinary approaches to problem solving using the various tools of computational science.

The courses included in this minor are highly interdisciplinary, yet all will expose the student to a wide range of computational tools that scientists and engineers use in problem solving. Students will use these tools to model and solve problems drawn from the fields of biology, chemistry, geography, geology, and physics.

In addition to the survey courses that introduce the mathematical and computational concepts behind the techniques of computational science, students in this minor will complete courses within the major as well as a second field where those techniques will be applied to "real world" problems.

Excellence. Our Measure. Our Motto. Our Goal.
