Minor: Computer Science, Web Design and Development Emphasis

(24 credits; 170-405)

The Web Design and Development Minor is for students interested in the design and development of World Wide Web sites.

The courses included in this minor are interdisciplinary -- half of the required credits are taken in Computer Science, and half are taken from courses offered by the Art, Communications/Journalism, and English Departments. This ensures that students will be familiar with a range of issues that must be addressed in designing effective Web sites, including graphic design and effective written communication.

The Computer Science courses included in the minor introduce students to the basics of Web Programming, including HTML, JavaScript, and Java. Advanced courses help students learn the basics of database design as well as standard software engineering practices. All of the Computer Science courses make use of standard development tools used in the professional design of Web pages and sites. Administration of Web sites is also discussed since students may find themselves considered the "Web Master" following graduation.
