High School Preparation

Computer science is a demanding profession. Students should enjoy the challenge of completing complex assignments and be able to solve both simple and sophisticated problems. They should be willing to spend time analyzing and solving problems both independently and collaboratively as a team. A strong mathematics background is essential. All students enrolling at Eau Claire are expected to have a minimum of 17 college preparatory units including: 4 years of English, 2 years of a foreign language, 3 years of math (algebra, geometry, pre-calculus), 3 years of natural science, and 3 years of social science (including American history). The most significant indicators of success in computer science are an interest in, and aptitude for, mathematics, and a positive work ethic.

The University

At UW - Eau Claire, undergraduate students choose from more than 80 majors and areas of concentration in arts and sciences, business, nursing, education, and human sciences and services. In addition to specialized study in the major and minor, students gain exposure to international and intercultural experiences and develop a greater capacity for problem solving, analyzing data, and communicating ideas. Moreover, the UW - Eau Claire college experience goes far beyond the classroom. There are hundreds of ways to pursue new interests, meet new people, and have fun.
